Bounty Hunter Tracker IV Metal Detector How To Operate and Instructional Video

The worlds number 1 best selling hobby metal detector, the Bounty Hunter TK4 Tracker IV Metal Detector
The Tracker IV is a fun and easy to use metal detector, that requires minimal user experience to effectively locate all kinds of treasure. Just because it is fun and easy to use doesn't mean it isn't a serious metal detector, the Tracker IV will deliver effective performance over a wide range of conditions and applications, such as relic hunting, coin hunting and gold prospecting.
The Tracker IV is a light weight and well balanced machine that's fully adjustable making it easy to use for both children and adults. The Tracker IV comes with a five year warranty and is made right here in the USA!

Nomenclature:
Let's take a closer look at your new Tracker IV.

Your New Tracker IV is comprised of the following major components:
  • The Coil- The Tracker IV comes stock with an 8" Concentric coil, though there are several coil options to best suit your needs. All coils for the Tracker IV are fully submersible for shallow water hunting.
  • The Control Box- The control box houses the (2) 9 volt alkaline batteries as well as contains all of the adjustable controls and electronic circuitry. Take care to keep the control box away from water as the control box is not waterproof.
The left knob is a dual purpose power and sensitivity control. The right knob is your discriminate control knob and the toggle switch is used to toggle between the three search modes. The meter in the center of the control box measures strength of signal and also contains a low battery warning light.
A 1/4" headphone jack is located on the left side of the face plate. (Headphones are not included)

  • Upper Stem and Lower Rods- The upper stem utilizes a comfortable S-rod design with a foam handle grip and a padded arm rest for comfortable use. The lower rod length is adjustable allowing it to be set to a comfortable length for most users.
Operation
The Tracker IV is a "motion" detector. This means that the searchcoil must be moving to detect the presence of metal. A metal object under a still searchcoil will not be detected.
Modes of Operation:
The Tracker IV allows for three modes of operation:
  • All Metal
  • Tone
  • Full Discriminate
All Metal- To enter All Metal Mode set the toggle switch to the center or middle location. In this mode all different types of metal will be detected such as: iron, steel, aluminum, brass, silver, copper and gold. Applications: Relic Hunting, Gold Prospecting, Cache Hunting and general applications such as property marker locating. This mode provides maximum depth detection capability.
Full Discriminate- To enter Full Discriminate set the toggle switch to the left. When using the Full Discriminator, most trash items will be automatically rejected. Adjust the DISCRIMINATE control higher to increase the range of discrimination.
Tone Discriminate- To enter Tone Discriminate set the toggle switch to the left. When using the Tone Discriminator, a unique dual tone “beep” and automatic iron rejection makes finding treasure fun and easy. It's also possible to achieve a broken tone for certain pull-tabs by adjusting your Discriminate control to the approximate center position (12:00). With the two-tone discrimination, along with a broken tone for pull-tabs, you will be able to identify types of buried metals according to the audio tones emitted. Applications: Coinshooting, Jewelry Hunting and detecting in highly trashed areas.
Tone discriminate classifies detected metal objects by emitting a low or high tone to various objects. For coin shooting you may set the Tracker IV so that it assigns a low tone for nickels, high tones for other coins and a broken tone for pull tabs; by adjusting the discriminate control on the right, to the approximate center or 12:00 position.
Adjusting sensitivity-

The Tracker IV metal detector is a sensitive machine and therefore it is susceptible to Electrical Magnetic Interference or EMI. EMI can be caused by power lines, motors and outdoor appliances. If your detector is emitting erratic signals when you are in the field, your SENSITIVITY may be set too high. Try reducing the SENSITIVITY slightly until the false signaling disappears.
